10 Questions I Ask Myself About this Past Year

There was an article I came across about this time last year from Success for Solopreneurs entitled “10 Questions to Ask Yourself About this Past Year” and I find it a decent way to wrap up what was and prepare for what is to come.  So here is my entry for 2012

1.  What did I accomplish this year?

This year, I produced two videos for the Mansfield/Richland County Convention and Visitors Bureau for their Shawshank Trail and Haunted Mansfield attractions that combined won 3 awards.  Those awards were handed out by the Ohio Travel Association and the Ohio Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus.

My personal headline, of course, is the fact that I married the love of my life, Stacy, in April of this year.  This is meant to be more about the business end of things, but I had to throw that in there!

And on the side gig front, Mid Ohio Rock Show was seen in 146 countries and viewed over 65,000 times.  We’re not viral, by any means, but it’s not bad for a small group with no budget or advertising!

2.  Who was there to support me throughout the year?

And here is what has been called my “closing credits” list:  My wife Stacy,  Tommy Barnes, Ronnie Hughes, Jodie Puster, Kim Miers, Lee Tasseff, Ben Bissman, Jami, Kinton, Violet Thompson, and Jon Alfrey.  These folks have been there for me to support, help, and sometimes just to let me yap.  Thanks to all of you that have supported me over the years!

3. What did I learn about myself this year?

I haven’t learned anything about myself this year.  After 2011, I learned my limits and I planned accordingly this year!

4. What did I stop, eliminate or let go of this year?

I eliminated some deadweight that was holding me back.  This included some that I considered friends a year ago.  People, as a whole, will bring you down once they see you are “doing better” than they are.  Those are the people you have to ignore.

5.  What one word best describes the year I just experienced?

6.  What is something new that I learned how to do this year?

I learned a few new tricks with Photoshop, After Effects and the cameras.  I can’t wait to see what I learn next year!

7.  What did my friends, family or loved ones teach me this year?

Focus on the positive.  Be thankful for what you have but always strive to attain more.  And, as always my personal “Obi-Wan Kennobi” in my head, my Late, Great Uncle John’s advice on my Graduation Day:  “Take it one day at a time, kid.”

8.  What did I create this year?

The Promotional Videos for the Shawshank Trail and Haunted Mansfield, and many episodes of Mid Ohio Rock Show.

9.  How did I influence, empower or help someone this year?

I’m not sure that I influenced, empowered anybody.  I try to help where I can for my friends.  As to whether or not I HELPED them, you would have to ask them!

10.  What brought about the biggest growth in me this year?

My marriage, first and foremost.

And here are 5 more questions to help you create the new year you want to live.

1.  What habit would I like to release or break this year?

2.  What one big, bold goal would I like to accomplish this year?

I would like to have a book published.  It’s in the works right now and, hopefully, someone will like it enough to put it in print for me.

3.  If I could wave a (realistic) magic wand (that doesn’t mean it can’t be far fetched right at this moment, just nothing like unicorns and golden geese) what would my life, my relationships, my business look like this year?

My business would grow dramatically to the point where I could leave my day job and focus solely on my work and my wife would be able to be the stay at home Mom she would love to be!

4.  What will I do to leave my comfort zone this year?

Get out and meet new people, build my network in new and exciting ways.

5.  Who would I like to meet this year and how would that relationship or that connection help me to grow?

I don’t have anybody in mind for this question.

So there you have it, my business year in a nutshell.  I wish all of you a great 2013 and I will see you on the other side!
